Level 1 Bridging Activity Ideas

[ 14 Apr 2009 ]

Level 1 December 2008

  • Nursery rhyme boxes with props for example, Five Current Buns with 5 buns, 5 pennies and an apron for the baker
  • Designed and produced a poster for Stoke Speaks Out advertising some of the resources that Stoke Speaks Out lend out
  • Make a sound box with four items with different sounds. Shake the box with one item in it and the children have to guess what it is
  • A bank of cultural resources showing positive images of travellers and their families that can be used with families at home or as a familiarity object in settings
  • Nursery rhyme bag containing a nursery rhyme tag attached to a soft toy that relates to the rhyme. The children can then pull one out and then talk about it or make up a story

Level 1 March 2009

  • Baby Group- Musical Instruments. Parents sat on the floor with their child to encourage eye to eye contact. Different instruments were used to introduce different sounds and experiences. Nursery rhymes were also played quietly in the back ground.
  • During registration a teacher worked with a child to help him with his speaking and listening skils by encouraging him to read a poem from his own personalised folder or write his own version from the poem that he had read
  • Have a designated member of staff to meet and great customers and direct them to health visitors, creche, baby massage etc.
  • Implemented an area to keep the children's personal items and where they can easily access them i.e. books and photos of family and pets
  • Four different children gave milk out each day. They had to either call the child by their name or the group that they were in. Those receiving the milk were reminded to use their manners.
