Joshua goes to playgroup two mornings per week with Nana. He goes
on a visit to Bucknall Park with Nana and the other children, plus
their carers.
He has never been on a coach before, and finds it a bit daunting when they board the bus, especially as the steps are very steep. Even Nana finds them a bit difficult.
Nana lets him sit by the window. There are dark red curtains at the window, but these are tied back so he can look out.
He loves the journey. It feels very high up and he can see more from the coach window than he can see from Dad’s car. He sees lots of busses, trees, vans and cars on the way.
He feels a bit sick though just before he arrives at Bucknall Park, and his friend Penny is sick!
He has a plastic bag full of bread-crumbs (provided by Nana) with which to feed the animals when they arrive.
They look at all the animals, play on the swings and other large play equipment. Go on the train and have a picnic. It doesn’t rain so they don’t need to use the shelter. They go to some very big, dark toilets.
He has a go at sitting on a pretend elephant, and Nana takes a photo of him sitting on top.
Nana made his picnic lunch. It is in a Thomas the Tank Engine lunch box that used to belong to Zac. She has made him a cheese sandwich, put in a bag of crisps and a lovely shiny red apple. He doesn’t want all of the crisps so he gives the leftovers to the ducks. They seem really pleased to eat them and quack very loudly.
His friend Declan has a chocolate bar, but it has gone all sticky and sticks to the plastic bag. He can’t eat it because it is so messy, and his mum gets a bit cross with him. He has to put it in the bin. Then Declan drops his doughnut and it gets dusty. He picks it up to eat it, but his mum tells him off and he cries. Then his mum shouts at him for crying. Joshua is quite pleased about all this. He eats his dinner (apart from the crisps) and receives a lot of praise from Nana for doing so. She doesn’t mind about the crisps as the ducks seem very happy.
