We are a team of speech and Language Therapists based at the Royal Infirmary site, Hartshill.
How do I refer my child for a Speech and Language Therapy
appointment?
If you are concerned about your child’s speech and / or language
development you can;
- Contact your child’s Health Visitor, School Nurse or G.P.,
discuss it with them and ask them to refer your child to us.
- Ask school/nursery staff to refer.
How long will I have to wait for my child
to be seen?
The waiting lists in Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire are very
long and so you may have to wait a while for an appointment.
If you would like some advice on what to do while you wait take a
look at the advice sheets on this website. If you are still unsure
phone us on (01782) 555677 and ask to speak to a therapist.
Who will my child see?
Most children are seen by the Speech and Language Therapist based at
their local health or children's centre.
If your child is identified as having a specific problem, such as a
hearing impairment, you may also be seen at home.
What if I can’t go to the appointment when
I am sent one?
Make sure you phone the number on the appointment letter and leave
a message for the named therapist so that they can send you another
appointment. If you are going away around that time let the therapist
know when you will be back so another appointment can be sent for after
this time.
What do I do if I miss my appointment?
Please phone up our office as soon as you can and leave a message for
the therapist to say you want another appointment. Children are discharged
from our service if we have not heard from you and a message is not
received within 2 weeks of the missed appointment.
